Colombian Textiles Are on Trend

Traditional colombian textile

Colombian textiles are featured not only in international trade fairs and the collections of renowned designers, but also in the catalogs and stores of those who seek high-quality materials. Here’s how Colombian textiles took the leap to become a global fashion trend.

In recent years, Colombia has positioned itself as a standout in the global fashion and textile industry. Beyond the vibrant colors and creative richness of its designs, there’s a story of innovation, sustainability, and quality that has caught the eye of buyers across the globe.

Today, Colombian textiles are featured not only in international trade fairs and the collections of renowned designers, but also in the catalogs and stores of those who seek high-quality materials. Here’s how Colombian textiles took the leap to become a global fashion trend.

The Global Influence of Colombian Fashion

Over the last decades, the country has consolidated a fashion industry that fuses traditional craftsmanship with technological innovation. Major events, such as Colombiamoda or Bogotá Fashion Week have served as platforms to highlight this evolution and as key spaces where international buyers and Colombian exporters connect and create business opportunities.

On the other hand, the country is also home to internationally recognized Colombian fashion designers like Silvia Tcherassi, Edwing D'Angelo, Esteban Cortázar and Humberto Cubides, who have dressed great celebrities and have taken Colombian talent to global stages, such as the Met Gala, or large concerts, such as the one offered by the singer Maluma, where the Colombian brand True participated, dressing the artist and showing the flexibility of national fashion.

An Industry That Grows in Exports

This international recognition has led to a surge in Colombia’s textile exports. In 2024 alone, the country exported goods worth USD 200.7 million, exceeding the 2023 figure of USD 200.4 million. This growth reflects not only Colombia’s strong production capacity but also the international market’s trust in the stability and quality of goods of Colombian origin.

In this trade, in 2024, fabrics and textiles were the most exported Colombian goods in the sector, with sales of USD 142.2 million and main destinations including Ecuador, Mexico, Peru and the United States. Yarns followed with USD 35.8 million, mainly exported to Mexico, the United States, and Brazil. Fibers reached USD 5.4 million with a 9% growth, largely sent to Brazil. Inputs totaled USD 4.5 million, and laces reached USD 4.1 million, with key buyers in Latin America and Asia.

This positions the United States, Mexico, Brazil and Ecuador as important trading partners for the fashion industry in Colombia, as they are among the main buyers of these goods of Colombian origin. This gives you, as an international buyer, a strategic advantage, since Colombia already has experience exporting to these markets and has established relationships with national exporters.

All this has been possible thanks to Colombian companies full of talent and committed to quality production. Among them are Aguamaría, Almibar Intimo, Be Monocromo, Boutique Lina Lemus, Canela By Elvira Burgos Sas - Fajas Canela, Ci Trading Express, Claudia Morelli, Creytex – Belife, Derive- Victoria Parra Af Buren, Fajas Romanza, Johanna Maldonado, Laudela, Libera Sleepwear, Mercedes Reyes, Milonga, Misshop Group Sas, Nube Luna, Oli Jewelry, Versatile Technology and Zuly Niño.
