About ProColombia

Our History

PROCOLOMBIA, created in November 1992 under Law 7 of 1991, is the main agency for the promotion of exports, tourism and foreign investment in Colombia. Initially established as a publicly financed trust with administrative autonomy, PROCOLOMBIA was set up through a trust agreement between the State, represented by Bancoldex, and Fiducoldex, using Proexpo's assets and 25% of Bancoldex's shares. In order to provide non-financial services to exports and promote an export mentality, PROCOLOMBIA established strategic guidelines until 1998, subsequently developing the Strategic Export Plan in 1998, in collaboration with public entities and the private sector.

Since its founding, PROCOLOMBIA has evolved, adapting to government policies and assuming new responsibilities under the Presidency. Beginning in August 2002, it began an internal transformation toward a more facilitative approach, detailed in the Strategy Manual. In February 2003, the Ministries of Economic Development and Foreign Trade were merged into the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, with the objective of optimizing the distribution of resources to improve national and international competitiveness. As part of this restructuring, PROCOLOMBIA was aligned with the policies of the new Ministry. Today, PROCOLOMBIA continues to be the main export, tourism and foreign investment promotion agency in Colombia, offering comprehensive support through a national and international network of offices, with the objective of facilitating the internationalization of its clients and closing business opportunities.
