National Plastics Legislation in Europe: A Step Towards Sustainability

Single-use plastics are emerging as a major source of environmental pollution. In this context, understanding the regulations linked to these materials becomes a key element to take effective measures to reduce their use and promote sustainable alternatives along the entire supply chain.

This document consolidates the results of the joint meeting held on October 21, 2022, hosted by Freshfel, ESSA, and various national associations. During this meeting, the national packaging legislation in five (5) European countries was discussed. Within this framework, both the challenges identified and the proposed solutions were presented, particularly in relation to fresh produce packaging at the European Union and national levels.
