The intent is to promote tourism to Colombia through the new network of domestic flights recently inaugurated by the airline in the country. The aim is to promote the destinations in the United States, Australia, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Mexico, Uruguay and Bolivia, mainly.

LAN Colombia (the LAN Airlines airlines recently launched its operations in the country) and PROCOLOMBIA sealed an alliance this Thursday to work jointly for the international promotion of Colombian tourist destinations. The agreement will allow the airline users to view, during their flight, the attractions our country has to offer.

The joint work plan seeks to promote tourism through the network of domestic flights (22 destinations from Bogotá) LAN operates in Colombia. This is targeted at strengthening the Colombian offering in countries like the United States, Australia, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Mexico, Uruguay and Bolivia. The strategy includes mass market campaigns and training international travel agencies and tour operators.

The International General Manager of LAN, Damian Scokin, spoke about the benefits of the alliance. "We are very excited to begin to fly in Colombia. This work plan with PROCOLOMBIA represents for LAN to have a strategic partner locally that will help us enormously to strengthen our ability to reach passengers around the entire world, for them to get to know the marvels of Colombia, through the 22 destinations we run in the country."

On the other hand, the President of PROCOLOMBIA, Maria Claudia Lacouture, highlighted the alliance is "an excellent opportunity to promote Colombian tourism destinations around the world. And it means Colombia will be recognized as an international benchmark to do business."

In turn, Hernan Pasman, executive director of LAN in Colombia, stated that "Colombia is a major player in Latin America, and has become a benchmark country in the LAN growth and consolidation process in the region and the world, given its geographical position and solid economic growth. One of our commitments upon arrival into the country is to contribute to its economic development, fostering tourism in Colombia and positioning it as a world class destination," he said.

More than 50 representatives from the tourism industry, LAN executives and PROCOLOMBIA attended the official presentation of the alliance.  This way, PROCOLOMBIA has reiterated its interest in becoming a strategic partner for the airlines arriving in the country, and broadening their seating capacity towards Colombia.

The new LAN affiliate in Colombia

LAN Colombia launched operations on December 5th, 2011, thus adding 23 new destinations to the LAN Airlines network, among which are 22 domestic flights and the international flight communicating Bogotá and Fort Lauderdale in the United States.
LAN Colombia represents a major challenge for the airline. The country has the second largest passenger market, after Brazil, and is the fourth largest economy in Latin America. Furthermore, it is the second largest population in the region, making it an attractive country for the airline industry.

One year ago, LAN announced the definitive purchase of 98.942% of the shares of Colombian airline, AIRES. Since then, it began to deploy changes to improve its itineraries, prompt flight departures and arrivals, as well as its security standards.
Currently, LAN Colombia has 1,750 employees, around 23% market share of domestic flights, and is the airline with the largest coverage in the country with a fleet of 26 airplanes.
