Colombian partakers will include hotels and domestic tour operators who, together with ProColombia, will make business appointments with European wholesalers.

Surfing along the astonishing vegetation in the Colombian Pacific coastline and exploring the culture of legacy towns are but some of the unique experiences available in Colombia, which 24 companies from six different departments will showcase at ITB 2015 in Berlin, a tourism international fair that gathers more than 10,000 exhibitors from 180 markets every year.

Colombia’s representatives will include hotels and tour operators from Bogota, Huila, Antioquia, Bolivar, Santander, and Choco, who will be meeting European wholesalers until March 8th in order to promote the country’s tourist attractions associated with nature, adventure, culture, and nautical tourism.

ProColombia will also hold appointments with 33 international companies, including wholesalers, tour operators, and cruise specialists to increase the country’s connectivity, lure more European travelers, and promote all of the unique experiences which are found in Colombia.

“Germany is a key market for our promotion strategy because this is the second European market with the largest number of travelers towards Colombia. According to information by the World Tourism Organization, German travelers are one of the biggest spenders during their trips, behind American and Chinese tourists,” stated the President of ProColombia, Maria Claudia Lacouture.

Last year alone, a total of 46,160 German travelers arrived in the country, most of them visited Bogota, Antioquia, Bolivar, Valle del Cauca, and Atlantico. According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Tourism, based on data by de Immigration Department of Colombia, this is a 16.8% increase compared to 2013.

As part of the promotion efforts of Colombia as an international tourism destination and the “Colombia is magical realism” campaign, visitors at the booth will enjoy performances by silleteros (wooden saddles dressed in flowers)gaiteros, and salsa dancers.

Also, visitors will have the chance to savor a cup of coffee and butterfly-shaped dulce de leche as part of the “Garcia Marquez literary menu” gastronomic tour by the Cartagena company Foodies, inspired by the author’s works.
