At least 2,700 persons will visit Cartagena on board of one of the most luxurious cruises of the Disney line, which reactivates its visit to the country after nearly four years of absence

After nearly four years, the Disney cruise line returns to Colombia with the inauguration landfall, in Cartagena, of one of its most significant ships.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, December 18, the Disney Wonder Cruise will arrive to the historical port with nearly 2,700 passengers on board, the first group that arrives to the country with the cruise line since 2008.

Upon arrival, the tourists who came on board in Miami will be hosted with cultural, musical and gastronomy samples, typical from the Caribbean region. The act, arranged by PROCOLOMBIA, the Cartagena Regional Port Association and the Tourism Corporation, also foresees to exchange plaques with the ship’s Captain in the inauguration landfall of the Disney Wonder, which next May will visit the Heroic city for the second time.

The 294 meter long ship offers multiple family entertainment options. These options include presentations of Disney characters and fireworks.

As to the return of the cruise line to the country, the president of PROCOLOMBIA, María Claudia Lacouture, indicated that year after year, cruise lines like Disney have noticed that Colombian ports "are well prepared to suit their needs. They offer the capacity, infrastructure and tourism appeals" that any other country can offer worldwide.

PROCOLOMBIA promotes the arrival of cruise lines to the country to attract new foreign tourits to cities of high tourism potential, like Cartagena, where apart from creating growth opportunities for tourism entrepreneurs, doors are also opened to domestic exporters who may become providers of goods and services to these ships.

According to figures issued by the Cartagena Regional Port Association, in 2006, it hosted 42,024 visitors and 38 landfalls. Two years after, it undertook operations as intermediate boarding port for the Royal Caribbean International line, and one year after, for Pullmantur.

In 2011, the number of passengers increased to 305,932 and 201 arrivals. For the current season, which began on August 28 and will extend to July 27, 2013, 192 landfalls are expected in Cartagena.

The Disney cruise line is one of the most important worldwide. It is present in the main Caribbean destinations and even offers a trans-atlantic cruise that arrives to Portugal and Spain, with boarding ports in Barcelona (Spain), Galveston, Los Angeles, Miami, Cape Canaveral in the United States and Vancouver (Canada)
