Thirteen SME’s chosen by IDB and PROCOLOMBIA will attend the third edition of the trade show, to take place in the city of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Fruit and vegetable based natural products, almojabanas or corn cakes, ground roasted coffee, coffee beans, Tahiti lemon, Hass avocadoes, yellow pitahaya, uchuvas, bananas and small organic bananas, will be some of the products on display by the national small and medium enterprises participating at LAC Flavors 2011.

This event was organized by the Inter-American Development Bank, and will be held this year on July 14th and 15th in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, with the attendance of 13 Colombian SME’s selected by IDB and PROCOLOMBIA.

Over 40 international buyers from the United States, Canada and Asia will be present at the macro business matchmaking forum.

The participating companies were chosen through the search for SME’s in the sectors of natural and organic products, fair trade, special products, fresh and processed fruits and vegetables, fish and seafood, or ethnic products.

The companies also had to have export experience to the United States or Canada and quality certifications like Fair Trade, Gluten Free and Kosher, as well as the capacity to produce and export innovative products, expert staff on trade activities, with broad experience and proficiency the English language.

During the process, PROCOLOMBIA considered the SME’s that have been affected by the negative fluctuation (devaluation) of the US dollar, the suspension of the Andean Trade Promotion and Drug Eradication Act (ATPDEA), and the rainfall season that battered the country during the past few months.

LAC Flavors 2011 is the third version of an event that has already taken place in Cartagena (Colombia) and Cancun (Mexico), and is intended to create new business opportunities between the food SME’s in the region and to strengthen commercial ties between them.
