Turismo

With the support from PROCOLOMBIA, companies from Bogota and Cartagena are in Cannes until December 4th participating in the most important tourism trade show.

When people refer to luxury, the first thing that comes to mind are words like “expensive”, “millionaires” and “five stars”. However luxury travel is taking a complete different turn: it’s not a product, it’s a concept.

Here, the important thing to note is the traveler’s experience that is looking for comfort, whether it is in the most modern hotel in the Caribbean or in a hammock in the heart of the Amazon. Luxury refers rather to the quality of the traveler's experience in the type of tourism he or she wants to do, whether it is nature, adventure, shopping, or anything else. Words like "private experience", "exclusive" and "intimate" fit this concept much better.

"Colombia has great potential in the luxury travel segment. We want to attract more affluent travelers in this segment that are willing to invest in a personalized scheduled holiday. Four Colombian entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to do business and learn about industry trends at ILTM, the biggest luxury fair this year "said Maria Claudia Lacouture, president of PROCOLOMBIA.

The International Luxury Travel Market (ILTM) featured at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès de Cannes (France), is the most important of the sector. There, representatives from Hotel Casa Pestagua and tour operators Singular Luxury Travel Designers, Cartagena de la Heroica,  Neptuno and All Reps from Bogota, will be at the event to hold 180 business meetings in total.

"This is the fifth time we participate in ILTM in Cannes. At the event we’ve had the opportunity to meet with buyers from other countries and network with them to generate new business deals. We hope to grow in markets like the US and enhance our presence in the UK, but also begin to explore opportunities in the Caribbean, where luxury tourism is gaining strength "said Ricardo Hernandez of Singular Luxury Travel Designers, an operator in Cartagena.

According to figures from the Colombian Immigration Department, tourism has increased in recent years. 1,726,300 international travelers arrived in Colombia during 2013 representing an increase of 8.5% compared to 2012 when 1,591,120 people visited the country. 2014 September Year-To-Date figures versus the same period in 2013 has seen an increase of 13.3% from 1,260,960 to 1,428,297 visitors.
