The award will be received by the Colombian Ambassador to Spain and the Director of the PROCOLOMBIA Sales office in that country.

Colombia will be awarded this coming Monday with the Best Exhibition Stand Prize at the International Tourism Fair in Madrid (Fitur 2011), thanks to PROCOLOMBIA’s participation during the event, which was held in January this year in Madrid.

The award will be received by the Colombian Ambassador to Spain, Orlando Sardi de Lima, and the Director of the PROCOLOMBIA Spain Sales Office, Juan Gabriel Perez, during a ceremony to take place at the S-100 room of Ifema in the Spanish capital.

Colombia will receive the award for its impacting presence during Fitur, where all attendees were invited to live the nature tourism experience and an artistic display was put together to capture the attention of all visitors.

Moreover, the country implemented an original and successful initiative to plant the trees it needed to clean 104 kilograms of carbon dioxide produced during its participation at Fitur. The initiative was totally embraced, considering 372 trees were needed and 2 thousand were planted.

On the other hand, the five-time salsa world champions, Swing Latino, taught the visitors their first dance steps at the rhythm of the best salsa from Cali. Their movements and couple-acrobatics were the main attraction and made them the stars of the main information shows in Spain.

The Colombian exhibition stand was recognized for the cleanliness of its architecture, its visual impact which, according to the judges at the event, "displays a construction that harnesses the duality as a project generator, between the advertising on the top portion, and the lower, inhabited section. The project concludes with a gesture loaded with intentions, offering a clear, recognizable image abroad, and an interior full of nuances”.

Fitur is one of the most important tourism fairs in the world, with an annual attendance of 60 thousand people on average. The Colombian delegation was led by PROCOLOMBIA and 30 companies and institutions, including regional tourism promoters, tour and hotel operators, and the support of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Tourism Promotion Fund.
