PROCOLOMBIA’s plan to attract international visitors includes an invitation to the foreign press, a round of visits involving tourism wholesalers so they can get to know what the eight host cities have to offer, and an alliance with Latin American media.

The campaign launched by PROCOLOMBIA to promote the country as host to the Under-20 World Cup to take place between this July 29 and August 20 will reach 60 million households in 16 Latin American countries.

PROCOLOMBIA presented its international strategy and emphasized that the work abroad involves 18 commercial offices and includes the distribution of information and content regarding the tourism offerings of the eight cities to host the Under-20 World Cup.

During the championship playoffs that were held in Peru last February and then in Guatemala City in March, PROCOLOMBIA has worked closely with the trade press to inform about the tourism opportunities open to the delegations, the media and fans that will come along to support their teams.

The agency invited journalists from Argentina, Mexico and France last April 27 to the draw, and took them on a tour of the host cities so they can let their audiences know about all the tourism opportunities that are open.

Over the coming weeks, media will be arriving from Brazil, Spain, Portugal, Guatemala and Ecuador for the same purpose of finding out about tourism in Colombia.

Round of visits to promote Colombian tourism

In addition, from May 23 until June 3 there will be a round of promotional visits that will include Central and South America, with 14 tourism company executives and local promotion agencies who will meet up with wholesalers in each country to offer complete package deals for tourists who come to Colombia to see the World Cup.

This round of visits organized by PROCOLOMBIA, with the support of the Tourism Promotion Fund of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Tourism, will include Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Panama, Ecuador, Brazil, Argentina and Venezuela, where, apart from interviews with the most important media groups of each country, there will also be commercial rounds of talks.

Programs of Colombia and the host cities

In addition, PROCOLOMBIA will be on the air for five months with the tourism promotion campaign called “Colombia, the only risk is wanting to stay” on the History Channel and Fox Sports.

The campaign will be broadcasted in Mexico, Central America, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Venezuela, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, the Caribbean Islands and Brazil.

This strategy also includes the broadcasting of nine half-hour programs about Colombia as a tourist destination, and the eight host cities of the Under-20 World Cup.

The international television plan is complemented by a special report on the website www.colombia.travel where travelers can access tourist offerings of all the capital cities that will receive the teams playing in the World Cup.
