Over 200 players from the ports sector and 20 conference speakers will come together to discuss the future of the ‘Heroic City’ as a destination for tourists and business people alike.

Thanks to Cartagena's feature of being a city where all different types of ocean, fluvial, air, railroad and ground transportation come together, over 200 people from the sales, academic and business sectors will meet between April 27th and 29th during the II International Ports Event.

The meeting, which is intended to strengthen Cartagena's position as a 'Port City' that abides by urban ordinance in both a harmonic and efficient way, was organized by the Cartagena Chamber of Commerce and the Colombian Engineer’s Association, supported by PROCOLOMBIA.

All fifteen guest foreign speakers and five national speakers will discuss topics like the relations between ports and cities, the financial future and international trade development, territorial zoning and the expansion of port operations, as well as the latest technologies for operations, distribution and customs legislations.

On the other hand, PROCOLOMBIA invited Mario Cordero as a conference speaker. Mr. Cordero is a member of the Long Beach, California Port Commissioners’ Board and pioneer of the Green Ports Policy implementation, which describes sustainability directives for port operations within the framework of environmental care.

Parallel to the encounter, a space will be designated to display the research work done by universities around the topic of port activation, and an industrial and commercial exhibition will take place with 24 participating companies showing their corporate portfolios to conduct business.

The event will also show the country’s potential as a corporate tourism destination, a sector identified by PROCOLOMBIA because of its large opportunities which has also proven to have important growth thanks to the development of the hotels offer, air-traffic connectivity and tourism diversity, as well as its strategic geographic position.

Moreover, during the past five years the country has gone up 13 positions in the world-wide congress ranking by the International Congress and Conventions Association (ICCA), placing it as the fifth Latin American country for attracting events.

This has turned Colombia into an ideal destination to put together conferences, conventions and incentive trips.
