Colombian coffee, represented by Café Quindío, was recognized as one of the top four best coffees in the world at the Coffee Cup Competition during SIAL Canada 2011.

Thirty coffee beans from seven countries were evaluated and rated by members of the Specialty Coffee Association of America (S.C.A.A.). The SIAL Canada is an international food tradeshow that targets the North American market and gathers 7,500 exhibitors, 200,000 visitors, and professionals in the food industry from all parts of the world.

During the three days of the SIAL food fair, various food competitions invite participants to showcase their product to an international audience. Café Quindío was awarded the “Gold Bean” at the International Gourmet and Premium Coffee Competition where its mild acidity and strong aroma stood out and was recognized.

According to Nubia Motta, General Manager of Café Quindío, “this is very important for us because we are competing against 30 coffees from several countries in the world, and we have brought a product grown by a farming community in the village of Genova, Quindío, who have worked to produce an environmentally-friendly coffee bean.”The recognition of the unique taste of the Colombian beans “generates new business opportunities and assists in compensating the farmer’s efforts, who get a percentage of the net profits from the sale of every pound of coffee,” explained Motta.
