In 2010 Colombia’s national airline, Avianca, merged with TACA, El Salvador-based airline, offering the largest route network in Latin America—serving over 100 destinations in the Americas and Europe.

After a successful and profitable first year as merged entity, Avianca- TACA seeks to continue improving operation efficiencies and capturing synergies. As one of the largest airline groups in Latin America, the alliance generated revenues of USD3.1 billion and transported approximately 18 million passengers in 2010. In 2012, when the integration process will be complete, Avianca-TACA will also likely generate more than the initial USD200 million projected for total annual synergies as it is continuing to identify additional new synergies working its way through the integration process.

Colombia’s geographical location positions it among the top destinations for hosting large corporate events and incentive meetings as there are currently 205 direct weekly flights from major carriers connecting eight cities in the United States to six cities in Colombia. According to the Administrative Department of Security, the tourism figures indicate a promising start in 2011 with a 15.4% increase in international travelers to Colombia, as compared to early 2010. As a new member of Star Alliance, Avianca- TACA has an optimistic outlook for 2012 as it its membership offers frequent travelers a selection of 19,700 daily flights to 1,077 airports in 175 countries.
