Cruise ships will bring over 505,000 visitors in 187 landfalls.
The largest cruise ship to ever dock at Cartagena is bringing over 5,300 passengers onboard.
The local economy expects revenues higher than $45 million USD.

 

The 2014-2015 cruise season was officially launched this Friday in Cartagena with the presence of Cecilia Alvarez Correa, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, and Maria Claudia Lacouture, President of PROCOLOMBIA, among other important figures.

During the event in the Pegasos Hall in the Julio Cesar Turbay Ayala International Conventions Center located in the city, the 187 landfalls confirmed to date by large and deluxe tourism vessels were announced.

According to a survey by the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association, each cruise passenger in transit through Cartagena spends an average of $97.77 USD. However, this figure increases to $133.8 USD for tourists embarking at the city. Around 505,230 visitors are expected to arrive, spread between 362,277 passengers and 142, 953 crewmembers.

The arrival of the MSC Divina by MSC Cruises will be the largest docking ever at Cartagena, with over 1,000 feet in length. This ship will arrive on November 16th with 3,959 passengers and 1,370 crewmembers.

Other announced landfalls include the Carnival Legend (Carnival Cruises), Disney Wonder (Disney Cruise Line), and Queen Victoria (Cunard Line).

The season begins on September 6th with the docking of the Monarch, from the Pullmantur cruise line, and starting then the cruise ship traffic in Cartagena will reach an average of 4.3 vessels each week until June 15th, 2015, when the Asuka II from Asuka Cruises arrives.

This season will mark the arrival of elegant ships from 29 cruise lines from around the world, including: Celebrity, MSC, Royal Caribbean, Pullmantur, Carnival, Oceania, Disney, Princess, Norwegian, Holland America, Compagnie du Ponant, Crystal, Hapag Lloyd, Majestic, P&O, Azamara, Phoenix Reisen, Cunard, and Asuka.
