Colombia Redefines High Fashion At New York Fashion Week

This Thursday, September 11, New York Fashion Week shines a spotlight on Colombia, as three of the country’s most compelling creative voices take center stage at the Studio at Rockefeller Plaza. The event marks a bold affirmation of Colombia as a rising force in global fashion.

New York, September 11, 2025. Leading the moment is Raúl Peñaranda, a New York–based designer of Colombian heritage, hailed by fashion magazines as “The New King of NYFW.” This season, under the guidance and support of the Council of Fashion Designers of America as a Friends of the CFDA member, he presents his thirty-second consecutive collection—a milestone that places him among fashion’s greats, including Oscar de la Renta and Carolina Herrera.

Peñaranda’s new collection, titled BLOOM, is a manifesto of rebirth. Every material and garment has been meticulously handcrafted in Cartagena, Colombia, where master artisans transform fine fabrics, intricate textures, sequins, lace, and delicate hand-beading into pieces that embody sustainable luxury while preserving refinement, exclusivity, and emotion. Yet this season, Peñaranda’s vision expands beyond his atelier, amplified by two Colombian brands that are rewriting the meaning of accessories in contemporary fashion.

Patricia Bueno’s Antoine Atelier is elevating the handbag into a work of art, rooted in ancestral techniques yet polished for the international stage. Her pieces, crafted in natural fibers and adorned with masterful crochet, crystal, and fringe, move effortlessly between authenticity and glamour. Equally disruptive is Johanna De La Cruz, who transforms jewelry into a cultural narrative. By fusing traditional Colombian basketry with metal and textile innovation, she creates luminous pieces where texture, color, and identity collide, accessories that transcend adornment to become personal statements.

Together, these three designers represent a Colombia that is not simply participating in global fashion but actively reshaping it. Their work embodies a nation whose creative industries are built on deep heritage, artisanal mastery, and an unrelenting pursuit of innovation.

“Colombia is no longer just a supplier to the fashion world; it is becoming a reference point for high fashion itself. Our textile and apparel industry has long been one of the strongest in the U.S. market. Today, with designers like these, Colombia demonstrates that it can set the tone for luxury and creativity at the highest level”, said Carmen Caballero, President of ProColombia, the promotion agency of the country.

Beyond the Runway: Bogotá Chamber of Commerce Brings Colombia’s Next Generation of Designers to NYFW

In parallel with Peñaranda, Bueno, and De La Cruz, the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce is amplifying Colombia’s creative footprint at New York Fashion Week through a landmark agenda that includes a fashion talk in Manhattan, a collective runway show in Chelsea, a video projection in Times Square, and a designers’ pop-up in Midtown. Eight emerging brands from Bogotá will debut on this global stage, underscoring Colombia’s power to reshape fashion by uniting heritage and luxury.
