PROCOLOMBIA Events Agenda from August 22nd to the 28th, 2011

From the week of August 22nd to the 28th 2011, Proexport Colombia will participate in the following national and international events.

Events Agenda:


U.S. multinational company to announce investment in Colombia

1. On Wednesday in Bogota, at the Marriott Hotel, a U.S. multinational company will ratify its confidence in Colombia by announcing a significant investment in the country. The event will be held at 8:30 am and is supported by PROCOLOMBIA Colombia.


The ' Opportunities in Logistics in the Caribbean' Seminar will be broadcast in Medellin Cali and Barranquilla. 

2. On Monday August 22, from 7:30 am to 1 pm at the Intercontinental Hotel in Medellin, PROCOLOMBIA will conduct a new seminar on ' Logistics and Opportunities in the Caribbean' for Colombian entrepreneurs. 

It will air simultaneously in the Cali Intercontinental Hotel and the Barranquilla Dann Hotel for all exporters interested in participating.

Those attending the seminar, which was already given in Bogotá on June 29th with the attendance of 100 entrepreneurs, will also have the opportunity to meet individually with logistics companies in the field of air services, courier, ocean freight and cargo consolidators.


Cruise ship tourism offering in San Andres, Cartagena and Santa Marta

3. This coming August 21st, the President of PROCOLOMBIA, Marí a Claudia Lacouture, will visit different cruise lines in Miami, to raise awareness of the tourism offering in San Andres, Cartagena and Santa Marta as ports to receive cruise ships and increase the arrival of ships and tourists to the country. During the visit, she will meet with representatives of Norwegian Cruise Lines and Princess Cruises. 


Colombian Editorials at the International Book Fair in Central America - FILCEN 2011

4. El Salvador welcomes Colombia as the guest of honor at the XV International Book Fair of Central America - FILCEN, between August 26th and September 4th. This multilateral meeting will take place within the framework of the Bicentennial of the Independence of El Salvador and its appointment as the Iberoamerican Culture Capital 2011. PROCOLOMBIA is supporting the trip and participation of Colombian companies, expecting about 50,000 visitors and 500 Iberoamerican publishers. Colombia will have an exhibition stand for 15 exhibitors and will have spaces enabled for autographs, a children' s playground, a library and coffee. 


Caribbean Construferia 2011

5. PROCOLOMBIA will bring a group of 10 international buyers who are part of the building materials sector, wholesale distributors, importers and manufacturers to the Caribbean Construferia fair 2011, to be held between August 25th and 28th at the headquarters of the Caribbean Trade Shows and Events facility in Barranquilla.  

This, the most important business platform of the Colombian Caribbean, is carried out with the support of the Regional Construction Chamber of the Caribbean (Camacol), aiming to consolidate a comprehensive offering to companies and professionals interested in acquiring materials for their construction works, both in country and in Central America and the Caribbean Islands.

Colombian Flower Exhibition in the United Kingdom

6. Asocolflores and PROCOLOMBIA have joined efforts to support the promotion of Colombian flowers in the British market in order to generate new business opportunities. 

The event will include an exhibition of different exotic flowers Colombian from 10 exhibitors to more than 110 guests from the industry between importers, wholesalers, supermarkets, packers, florists and media on August 23rd at the Intercontinental Hotel in London.


In London, talk about the Colombian Birdwatching Offering 

7. This coming August 23rd at the Royal Geographical Society of London, PROCOLOMBIA will hold an event for members of the Society who are interested in travel and nature, to showcase Colombia as a destination for birdwatching and the new Bird Guide. 

About 70 people are expected to attend. Sergio Ocampo, bird specialist, will speak about Colombia as a destination for bird watchers, while journalist Harry Eyres, who recently made a birdwatching trip to the country, will share his experience with the audience.


Group of international buyers at the Maquila and Fashion Fair in Ibague

8. Six Ecuadorian companies, six from Mexico and one from the United States, chain stores and catalog sales companies that assemble garments in Colombia, will participate in the Maquila and Fashion Fair in Ibague with the support of PROCOLOMBIA, from August 24th to 26th at the Agricultural Bank Building (Banco Agricola) of the capital city of Tolima, looking for suppliers of casual and sports wear in the country. The event is organized by the Chamber of Commerce of Ibague. 


' Another Flavor' fam trip 

  9. Between August 18th and 25th, Mucho Gusto Magazine, one of the few magazines specializing in gastronomy in Ecuador, will visit Medellin and Bogota as part of the " Otro Sabor" (Another Flavor) gastronomic fair to showcase the main tourist attractions in the cities and the fair. Journalist Monica Haro and photographer Cristina Garzó n will be participating. 


Outsourcing companies in Colombia will have a quality certification entity

10. Jane Siegel, Director of the ITSqc, Institute of Carnegie Mellon University, will be in Bogota from August 22nd to 27th to train the Colombian Corporation RCC-ICT to make it the first organization authorized to certify the international quality model eSCM-ISP in the Andean region for companies providing outsourced services. 

Her visit is the result of the alliance between PROCOLOMBIA and the IDB, which joined forces to strengthen the off-shoring industry in Colombia and the Andean countries and to increase exports of outsourced services through diversification into new markets.
