More tourists traveling from the Dominican Republic to Colombia, thanks to the new flight connection

The direct flight from Bogota to Punta Cana will be in operation from the coming 20th of July, in addition to the four weekly flights between Bogota and Santo Domingo.

The new flight between Bogota and Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, beginning operation this coming July 20th, will increase the flow of travelers from that country into Colombia.

According to the information by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Tourism, and based on DAS figures, the Dominican Republic is the number one issuer of tourists from the Caribbean to Colombia. The first quarter of 2011 alone represented the arrival of 2,160 Dominican travelers.

The additional flights on the Bogota - Punta Cana – Bogota route on Wednesdays and Saturdays in the new schedule will enhance the four existing weekly frequencies Avianca has between Bogota and Santo Domingo, the capital city of the Dominican Republic. This flight will be operated on Airbus A319 aircraft, with the capacity for 120 passengers, 12 on Business Class and 108 on Coach.

According to an opportunities assessment by PROCOLOMBIA, tourists from the Dominican Republic will fly into the country seeking products like golf, conventions incentives, cruise liners, gastronomy, culture, large cities, horseback riding and religious tourism.

Colombia represents a large tourism potential to the Dominican Republic, since to its people, our country is an innovative destination, geographically nearby and with the possibility to offer several different climates and landscapes, thus enabling them to schedule multi-destination trips.

According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Tourism, 9,337 tourists from the Dominican Republic arrived in 2010, 30,5% more than in 2009, when 8,820 people came to visit.
