Visitors invited by Proexport came from Taiwan, the United States, China and Australia to cover the 12th edition of the World Barista Championship, which was held in Bogota for the first time.

As part of its promotion activities of Colombia as a world-class destination for the hosting of congresses and conventions, PROCOLOMBIA invited five of the most important specialized media in Baristas or coffee experts, to the World Barista Championship and Expo Special 2011, held in Bogota.

Journalists from the United States, Taiwan, China and Australia had the opportunity to visit the Coffee Triangle to see the coffee production processes first hand and visit the regions most popular tourist attractions. After their trek around the region, they arrived in Bogota to cover the world Barista convention.

This is the most important competition in the world, with the participation of 50 national champions from all continents, taking place for the first time in a coffee growing country, thus expecting to position the country even more as a destination for international congresses and conventions.

Kenneth R. Olson from Barista Magazine Chris Ryan from Fresh Cup Lin Tung-Yuan from Coffee T& I Qian Xiao-Ming from Coffee Style and Christine Grimaud from Global Coffee Review and Bean Scene, began their visit by discovering, first hand, the coffee production processes and the marvellous tourist sites the coffee region has to offer.

The visit to the farm El Agrado, several other coffee farms, the National Coffee Park and the encounter with science at the National Coffee Research Center (Cenicafe) were, among others, the highlights for the journalists who were invited to visit the country.

During the month of may, the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) announced that Colombia went up three positions moving from number 37 to 34 in the world ranking for the realization of conventions.

This is the most important corporate tourism measurement in the world, reaching over six thousand international associations in a constant quest for destinations for their congresses and conventions.
According to the National Coffee Federation, ten thousand visitors are expected during the four-day fair, which will make Expo Especiales Cafe de Colombia 2011 the most visited coffee trade show in the world.
