Corpac will build a pipe product factory in the Province of Atlantico

The province of Atlántico will the the headquarters of a modern production plant of the Corpac group, which will manufacture pipe products for the domestic industry and for export as of the end of next year.

According to Droshn Vishnoff, Director General of Corpac Group in Latin America, the investment "will allow manufacturing more than 150 thousand tons of pipe products (casing and tubing) and pipe line casings for pipes of up to 48 inches, using cutting-edge technology".

Corpac is a steel products company, mainly for pipes to be used in the oil industry, and includes four divisions: industrial, distribution, service and storage, and will open the group's production unit in Colombia.

The company, which came to Colombia with the support of ProBarranquilla and PROCOLOMBIA, selected the country to benefit from the advantages that the Free Trade Agreement signed with the United States has to offer, which became effective last May 15.

Vishnoff indicated that one of the determining factors that led to the investment decision were the anti-dumping measures implemented against imports from China, and adopted by the Colombian government.

Another influencing factor was "the growth of the industry both locally and globally, our market positioning, together with the professional and qualified labor resources that the Country offers. These elements allow us to contribute to the future growth of Colombia and its presence worldwide".

Colombia is an appealing country for investment in the hydrocarbons sector, opening the doors for the arrival of companies that offer goods and services to this industry.

"In the specific case of goods, Colombia offers potential for the metal-mechanics industry and the development of products for companies that explore and produce hydrocarbons", indicated the President of PROCOLOMBIA, María Claudia Lacouture.

At present, Colombia is the third oil producer in South America, with 87% growth between 2004 and 2011, reaching 980 thousand barrels.

According to Corpac, a company that will participate in the Colombia Oil and Gas from October 30 to November 2 in Corferias, more than 200 direct jobs could be generated by the plant, and 50% of the production would be devoted to the internal market, while the rest would be exported to countries in the Americas.
