Colombian exporters looking to enter the food market in India

This November 16th, a group of six national companies will participate in Annapoorna-World of Food India, a fair visited by almost six thousand specialized visitors.

Six Colombian companies will participate, with support from PROCOLOMBIA, at the specialized food and beverage fair, Annapoorna-World of Food India.

Colombian entrepreneurs will travel to Bombay, financial and industrial center, with the intent of finding potential business partners to allow them to start doing business with that country.

The event will take place from November 16 to 18 at the Bombay Exhibition Center. The companies Base Cook, Toscafe, Signa Grain, C.I Dulces la Americana, Uniban and Dulces Paragü itas will offer their tropical sauces with a blend of spicy ingredients, different varieties of coffee, including soluble coffee, soy milk, microwave snacks, hard-candy or confections, fried plantains and guava paste, milk caramel, wafers and cookies.

" India is one of the most dynamic markets in the planet, it is young and growing at very high annual rates. Furthermore, every day there are more consumers looking for western products," assured Humberto Isaza, from Signa Grain, who will display microwave snacks, powdered soy milk and cereals like oatmeal.

He also explained that " the major players in retail are already investing there, like Walmart and Carrefour. But the important thing is that we have already identified business opportunities at fairs like Anuga and Sial Paris, where Indian businessmen have shown a lot of interest for our products."

Diana Muete, from Dulces la Americana, had the same opinion. " This is a market where we have found that we can sell interesting volumes of our products. Thus, we are going to exhibit our lollipops, different types of candy, and we hope to make good contacts and close some deals with potential clients."

In addition, the strategy ' A Taste of Colombian Flavors' will also be in operation during the fair, taking special samplings of snacks, specialty coffees, wafers, guava paste and spicy sauces based on exotic fruits, among others.

According to the information by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Tourism of Colombia, and based on DANE figures, Colombian exports to India in the agribusiness sector between January and June 2011 reached US$2.2 million.

The most sold products were processed foods like dairy, bakery, cocoa, spices and flowers.
