Colombiamoda will Promote Environmental Awareness

Proexport Colombia and Inexmoda, with the support of Contreebute, will calculate the carbon footprint generated by Colombiamoda. As compensation, there are 50 thousand trees available for the textile industry to join the initiative.

Colombian exporters, foreign buyers and visitors of Colombiamoda may contribute to reducing the environmental impact caused by the fair this year.

Así lo is considering the " Colombia, Committed to the Planet" project to be carried out by PROCOLOMBIA in the most renowned Colombian fashion event, where business meetings will take place between 632 foreign entrepreneurs and more than 450 national entrepreneurs.

During the three days of the fair, with the support of ConTreebute, the carbon footprint calculation will be made among attendees, and the industry will be encouraged to join the project by planting trees to neutralize the impact generated.

The target is to plant 50 thousand native trees in the eastern region of the province of Antioquia. The sowing area, which will be plots fully dedicated to protect basins and / or recover terrains, will be managed by the regional communities, and trees will be acquired in the surrounding municipalities to generate employment and reactivate local economy.

Hence, the fair will not only be the space to show the latest Colombian fashion trends, but will also convey the industry&rsquo s commitment to the environment.

Throughout Colombiamoda, discussions and conferences will be carried out on the importance of protecting the environment.

This strategy was implemented by PROCOLOMBIA during its participation in the International Tourism Fair, Fitur 2011, where the national participation carbon footprint in the event was eliminated. This was also the case at ITB, Germany, the World Economic Forum in Switzerland, Colombiatex, the International Book Fair and Colombia Travel Mart in Bogota.
