80 Japanese entrepreneurs attended the Investment Seminar in Colombia

Representatives from renowned Japanese companies established in New York were present at the first seminar on Investment Opportunities in Colombia.

Eighty Japanese entrepreneurs established in New York participated in the Investment Seminar arranged by JETRO, the Japanese Foreign Trade organization, where the advantages of investing in Colombia were shared.

During the Event, PROCOLOMBIA introduced sectoral incentives in fields such as tourism, software, BPO, construction materials, oil related services, auto parts, health services, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. The Japanese businessmen showed great interest in the benefits they would obtain in regard to tax, and the possibility to hire skilled labor, if they were to establish their businesses in Colombia.

The seminar was the preamble to the visit planned by a group of Japanese investors to the country in February 2012, where they will have the opportunity to meet officers from the public and private sector to delve into the investment opportunities.

Among the Japanese companies to highlight in Colombia, there is evidence of a strong presence in the automotive sector, with brand names like Toyota Motor Corporation, Hino Motors, Mazda, Honda, Suzuki and others equally established in Colombian consumer goods like Epson, Toshiba, Sony and Mitsui Financial Group.

The presence of these brand names in the country has favored the Japanese Foreign Direct Investment index in Colombia, which reached US$44.6 million accrued between the years 2000 and 2010, according to the figures by the Central Bank.
