The Caribbean cities of San Andres and Santa Marta were nominated for the best beach destination in South America category by World Travel Awards, For the last 20 years, this award has showcased and awarded excellence in every sector of tourism around the world.
According to the portal, San Andres and Santa Marta were evaluated by the event organizers and should have been a part of earlier versions of this international competition.
This is the second consecutive year that San Andres and Tayrona Park in Santa Marta seek the title of best beach destination in the South American continent through an online vote.
PROCOLOMBIA' s President María Claudia Lacouture said that, " international tourists visiting both Santa Marta and San Andres can enjoy unique experiences such as scuba diving in one of the largest coral reefs in the Caribbean, or re-discovering the cradle of an indigenous civilization." .
PROCOLOMBIA' s promotional strategy abroad for sun and sand tourism, one of the seven products included in Colombia' s tourism, impacts over twenty markets, including Germany, Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Canada, Chile, Spain, the United States, France, Peru, Russia and Switzerland.
Also included in the voting to select the winner, which began April 13 and will remain open to the public until June 2, are the beaches of the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador, Margarita Island in Venezuela, the beaches of Fernando Norohha and Ipanema in Brazil, and Mar del Plata in Argentina.
Winners of the various regional categories will enter the competition for the global distinction of receiving the World Travel Awards, Now in its twentieth year, the contest has been held since 1993. The judges of the competition will be world-renowned agents of the tourism industry.
