The month of Colombia begins May 21 at the National Geographic Store in Madrid

The country will be promoted as a world-class tourism destination through various activities that will present Colombian culture.

From workshops for children to learn about Colombian handicrafts and woven textiles, to photographs and documentaries about the main tourism destinations will be presented at the National Geographic Store in Madrid starting this May 21.

The strategy, called ' The Month of Colombia at the National Geographic Store Madrid' , has the purpose of creating awareness in the almost 27,000 tourists that visit the store, and presenting the country' s offer on matters of tourism.

Led by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Tourism and the Tourism Promotion Fund and PROCOLOMBIA, the event will take place until next June 21, during which various activities will be carried out to encourage Europeans to learn about Colombia.
During the inauguration, where traditional Colombian food and Club Colombia beer will be sampled, documentaries will be projected about the country, photos and flowers will be exhibited, and live traditional music presentations will take place.

Also, well-known character Juan Valdez will be at the Plaza Callao at the Spanish capital from May 24 to 26, inviting bystanders to visit the National Geographic store during the month of Colombia and handing out samples of the best Colombian coffee.

There will also be various talks presenting the indigenous culture. For example, there will be a talk on the cultural coffee-growing landscape being declared a world heritage site by Unesco, the jungles of Choco and its biodiversity, Cocuy National Park.

And workshops will be given. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn how to build traditional instruments from the Atlantic coast, model clay pottery as made by some indigenous tribes, create woven textiles and other handicrafts.

The same promotion of Colombia as a world-class tourist destination will be duplicated at the National Geographic Store in London, during the 2012 Olympic Games, from July 17 to August 17.
