Journalists From Venezuela and Ecuador Will Cover the 2013 Vallenato Legend Festival

Proexport has ensured that, in its 46th year, the festival will have special coverage from the Ecuadorian and Venezuelan press. The musical genre has a large following in both countries.

Print and television media from Venezuela and Ecuador will attend the 2013 Vallenato Legend Festival. In addition to immersing themselves in the culture of this Colombian musical genre, they will also meet talents that come from all around the continent to participate in the competitions.

The Ecuadorian network TC Television and the Venezuelan newspaper Panorama were invited by PROCOLOMBIA to experience the magic of this festival. It is one of the most representative festivals of Colombia, not only for its more than 40 years of history, but also for its commitment to preserve traditional rhythms and instruments.

" The presence and work of these journalists will help us show the markets that share the taste for Vallenato the immense cultural and musical wealth of the festival that opens its doors year after year to both nationals and foreigners in April," said PROCOLOMBIA president Maria Claudia Lacouture.

According to Migracion Colombia figures, the average monthly number of international travelers that arrived in Valledupar in 2012 was 380. In April, when the Festival traditionally takes place, the number rose to 1,035 visitors. This upward trend also occurred in 2011 the monthly average was 358, but 876 foreign tourists arrived in April.

In both years, Venezuela and Ecuador came first and fourth in the list of the five main countries bringing tourists to this region. Travelers also came from the United States, Mexico and Spain.

Many of these foreigners come to the festival to participate in one of the four competitions: Typical Vallenato Band in the professional, amateur and children' s categories Unedited Vallenato Song in different styles Piqueria (singing duels) and Piloneras (traditional dance) and Performance of the Legend of the Miracle or the Vallenato Legend.

The journalists have a five day agenda between April 26 and 30. They will have the chance to see and record the elimination rounds for four competitions and the crowning of the winner for each
