Consumer education key to exotic fruit market growth in UK

Importers have warned that the strong growth potential of the UK&rsquos exotic fruit market may not be realised unless consumers are adequately educated about the nutritional benefits of the fruits and their uses.

Marks & Spencer, Asda and Morrisons recently started stocking some exotics that are new to the UK market such as tamarillo, which are native to Colombia. Upmarket retailers like Harrods, Harvey Nichols and Fortnum & Mason are also seeking to expand their exotics ranges.

However, importers fear this increased interest in the sector may not be sustainable unless an increased onus is placed on consumer education.
