Colombia's export quality book illustration

Four talented book illustrators, invited by Proexport Colombia, display their work to 132 international buyers attending the III Business Rounds at the Book Fair in Bogota.

Four illustrators will display their talent this Wednesday  on two 3 x 2.5 meter canvases located at the Business Rounds at the International Book Fair where 132 international buyers from 18 countries will participate.

" There is a lot of book-illustration talent in Colombia going to waste&rdquo , said David Niñ o, one of the four artists painting while the international buyers hold business meetings with Colombian exporters on the second floor, pavilion 6 at Corferias.

Alongside are Rafael Yockteng, Jose Rosero and Sandra Gonzalez, who have the responsibility to create live illustrations of works that will later be donated to a variety of foundations.

Booksellers, publishers, distributors and businessmen from Ecuador, Mexico, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Panama, Peru, Dominican Republic, Argentina, United States, Nicaragua, Chile, Honduras, Venezuela, Bolivia, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and Paraguay will have a first-hand look at the work of Colombian illustrators, inspired on two topics: Imagination and reading phases.

" This is very important, because it will be a window not only for us, but also for many other Colombian illustrators" , assured Jose Rosero.

Text illustration is considered to be, as stated by the illustrators themselves, as an artistic expression that is more open to the public, which will provide a better supplement to the reading experience, reason why its presence is stronger in children's literature. " It is easier to reach the readers with images than with words. That is why it works so well with children, although it typically happens at all ages" , said Rafael Yockteng.

The Business Rounds organized by PROCOLOMBIA, the Colombian Book Chamber and Corferias, seeks to promote the national editorial and graphic sector, but will also give national artists the opportunity to demonstrate to international buyers that Colombian illustration is yet another investment option.

" Illustration has recently began to rise. We expect this type of encounters to open doors for us abroad. However, it is also important for the country to acknowledge its local talent more&rdquo , explained Rafael Yockteng.

Jose Rosero had the same opinion. " In Colombia we are still on all fours in this field. We still have a lot to learn and work as a team. But we are on our way" .
