Colombian Salsa, Gold and Archeology on Tour Around Spain

In just one place, visitors of Fitur 2013 can live and breathe what the country has to offer in cultural tourism for foreign travelers.

Colombia is a country rich and diverse in culture and its expressions. This potential will be on display at the country's 700 square meter stand at the International Tourism Trade Fair (Fitur) organized in Spain, which will provide visitors with the opportunity, in just one place, to learn to dance salsa, admire pieces from the Bogota Gold Museum in 3D and get to know the typical characters of Barranquilla's Carnival, as well as the archaeological wealth of the municipality of San Agustin.

This is PROCOLOMBIA's ninth year at the fair that, given its importance, is strategic in promoting Colombian products and generating business opportunities for entrepreneurs from the tourist sector that offer cultural, nature, adventure and sun and sand packages, among others.

Cali's Salsa Gets the Spanish Dancing

This year, Colombia's participation aims to get visitors to experience the tourism it has to offer. So at the stand, you can enjoy demonstrations by professional salsa dancers and also, learn how to dance to this rhythm.

"The stand has a virtual game, Salsa Revolution, which will teach visitors the steps of the rhythm in three levels of difficulty that represents Cali's culture. A sensor will rate learners' moves. It will all be shown on a big screen and there will be instruction by professional dancers," explained Maria Claudia Lacouture, President of PROCOLOMBIA, the Colombian government entity in charge of promoting exports, tourism and investment in Colombia.

This was experienced by the Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization himself, Taleb Rifai. He did not hesitate one second in breaking protocol, taking off his jacket and jumping on the dance floor to follow the steps shown on the screen by the application.

In addition, on February 2 and 3, four couples of professional salsa dancers will take over the corridors of the fair with their dance steps and colorful costumes to delight spectators with a show that has been recognized as one of the best in the world.

At Fitur, the Gold Museum is in 3D

With an ambiance similar to the original museum located in Bogotá, which houses more than 34,000 objects, nine pieces from the Gold Museum that represent the Muisca and Tayrona cultures will be exhibited in holograms. These cultures are characterized by their craftsmanship in gold, copper and ceramic, among other things. Visitors can learn about their history through audio-guides available on-site.

The cultural scene is Bogota's main tourist attraction. Therefore, scenarios such as Fitur make it possible to describe the potential of this destination for all tourists seeking art and history. It is a destination with a wide variety of museums, art galleries, theaters, important food districts, shopping centers and prestigious Colombian and international fashion design houses.

San Agustin Archaeological Park and Barranquilla's Carnival in Photos

La salsa, el oro y la arqueología de Colombia de viaje por España

In order to promote the tourist potential of the landscape in the Archaeological Park of the municipality of San Agustin (Department of Huila in the southwestern region of the country), the space devoted to Colombia will have a photo booth that will "take" visitors to one of the Colombian destinations richest in archeology. It is made up of more than 500 impressive statues in stone carved by the indigenous communities that lived in the region.

In just a few minutes, you can go from the southwest to the Colombian Caribbean, in the northern region of the country, and take a photo at the Barranquilla Carnival, declared a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
