Colombian Quality and Healthy Foods can fill Canadian Pantries

The South American country's offering will be announced during an International Business Matchmaking Forum in Toronto on October 27 and 28.

With exotic, natural and environmentally friendly and socially responsible foods, 150 exporters from Colombia will come to Canada to do business with 120 local buyers during the International Business Matchmaking Forum in Toronto.

During the business meeting, to be held on October 27 and 28 at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel, Canadian businesses will see the supply of Colombians who have products to showcase such as palm oils and fats, sugars, syrups and sweeteners, derived from cocoa and coffee, processed fruits, diverse food preparations, snacks and confectionery, bakery and milling products.

The meeting is organized by PROCOLOMBIA, the entity entrusted with international promotion of tourism, investment and exports, and will aim to strengthen trade relations between the two countries, not just the clothing sector but also the agribusiness and manufacturing sectors.

In addition, it will use the recent Free Trade Agreement between the two countries, in force since August 15, which allowed zero-tariff entry of a number of Colombian products like sugar, flowers, cocoa, processed rice, and cereals.

Colombia will offer different foods, with quality and competitive prices, which will provide business opportunities for all Canadians who are interested.

The variety of agribusiness products is one of the strengths of the South American country. According to the information by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Tourism of Colombia, with DANE figures, exports of this sector reached US$54.4 million in 2010. Between January and July 2011 they reached US$35.8 million.

Higher sales were in fresh flowers and sugar and honey, with a share over the total of 50 and 23.2 percent each.
