Colombia will be present for the first time in World Routes 2011 in Germany, between October 2 and 4, an event which brings together airports, airlines and tourism authorities from around the world to create new air connections and promote tourism destinations.
Colombia will be represented by El Dorado Airport in Bogota, the Cartagena Airport Society and the Tourism Corporation of Cartagena, with the support of PROCOLOMBIA and the Tourism Promotion Fund of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Tourism.
The national representatives will have a booth where they will have the opportunity to meet with airlines and airports from around the world to seek opportunities for new direct connections to the country and more flight frequencies for the airlines.
The event will also be the opportunity to promote domestic destinations that have international airports, such as Cartagena, San Andres and Bogota, among others.
PROCOLOMBIA will be present to provide institutional support to airports that will participate in the fair and support the promotion of Colombia as a destination.
The official website of the event, www.routesonline.com, will highlight the connections between Bogotá and Rio de Janeiro through Avianca airlines, and how this market has doubled in the last year. Moreover, it mentions future direct connections between La Paz and the Colombian capital city.
Colombia has observed an increasing trend in international tourist arrivals in the last six years, going from 790,940 international travelers in 2004 to 1,474,884 in 2010 between January and August this year, 1,066,709 passengers were registered, representing an increase of 10.7% over the same period last year with 963,685, as reported by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Tourism, based on figures from DAS.
