Colombia, guest of honor at the Popular Traditions Festival

This is the most important cultural festival in the United States, where Colombia will exhibit its diversity. Proexport Colombia will be in charge of promoting the country through ten press trips with the main communications media in the United States.

Colombia will be the guest of honor at the Festival de Tradiciones Populares from the Smithsonian Institute, one of the most recognized learning centers in the world, to be held from June 30th to July 11th in Washington, United States.

In this version of the most important cultural encounter in this country, Colombia&rsquo s cultural heritage and wealth will be celebrated and the relationship existing between popular expressions in the Colombian environment will be explored.

The main goal of the Festival is to display the main customs, trades and wisdom of the guest countries.

According to the Ministry of Culture, the program will emphasize on seven Colombian ecosystems. Southeastern plains, Tropical Rainforest, the Mompox Depression, the Pacific Rainforests, the Andean Plateau, the Coffee Triangle and three urban ecosystems: Bogota, Cali and Medellin.

In addition, over 100 Colombian artists will be invited to promote " the nature of Colombian culture&rdquo , to sing, dance, tell stories, prepare typical food and demonstrate the most emblematic religious ceremonies, among other activities.

PROCOLOMBIA is organizing 10 press trips with journalists from the most popular media in the United States, seeking to promote Colombia among the most important media in that country.

Journalists will have a first hand look at the main tourist attractions in the country, which will be exhibited several weeks later in Washington.

Three schedules have been planned for that purpose, to be executed between May 15th and 28th, for journalists to choose from according to their interests. Bogota and the Amazon, Cali and the Coffee Triangle, and Medellin and the Colombian Caribbean are the options.
