140 International Buyers at the Book Fair Business Rounds

Colombian entrepreneurs participating in the event organized by Proexport Colombia, the Colombian Book Chamber and Corferias seek to increase exportations in the editorial sector.

Entrepreneurs from 116 international companies will visit Bogota next week to participate in the III Business Rounds to be held during the International Book Fair to continue promoting exports in this sector.

140 guest international buyers invited by PROCOLOMBIA will participate to hold business appointments with the Colombian exporters registered at the business rounds arranged in a joint effort with the Colombian Book Chamber and Corferias.

A report by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Tourism, based on official DANE figures, has revealed that book exports in Colombia added up to a total of US$ 99 million in 2010.

The Business Rounds will be held on May 4th on the second floor of the 6 Pavilion at Corferias. International entrepreneur visitors will include booksellers, publishers, distributors and businessmen from Ecuador, Mexico, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Panama, Peru, Dominican Republic, Argentina, United States, Nicaragua, Chile, Honduras, Venezuela, Bolivia, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and Paraguay.

They will also have the chance to visit the Fairgrounds with over 400 Colombian exhibitors, to see all the innovations and the broad diversity of business opportunities in the sector.

The Book Fair, one of the three most important editorial events in Latin America, will also be a venue for training and exchange of academic, technical and technological innovations in the editorial sector and the whole world.

A sector with growth potential

Both the Fair and the Business Rounds are not only intended to promote reading, but also to strengthen the editorial market in the country.

According to the information by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Tourism, books, brochures and similar printed materials were the most exported products in 2010, followed by dictionaries and encyclopedias.

During the same year, the United States ranked itself as Colombia&rsquo s largest trade partner in this sector, representing 22% of exports in the sector. It was followed by Mexico, Ecuador and Venezuela, with participations of 15, 11 and 10 percent respectively.
