The work has been based on globalizing local companies to promote non-traditional exports, attract foreign investment and regional tourism

A total of 536 companies from different sectors participated in 2010 in the activities that PROCOLOMBIA carried out in 2010 in Cali, in order to promote non-traditional exports, attract foreign investment and position the city and the region as international tourism destination.

Likewise, three macro-rounds were carried out with the involvement of 80 companies in the region; seven networks were created with 63 companies from Cali in sectors like tourism, dress-making, graphic arts, metal-mechanics, and the province managed to be present in the most important events of fashion, services and food, among others, such as SIAL Canada, Anuga in Germany and Intermoda in Mexico.

In 2010, the sectorial Expolyme program of the agroindustry commenced, with the participation of 14 companies from the region, and 24 seminars were held on different areas of interest for the business sector.

Management with results

The figures of the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade for 2009 – 2010 indicate that the promotion work carried out by PROCOLOMBIA has been effective. In these two years, a 6.5% growth was reported in exports, reaching US$ 2.206 million FOB, and the province was ranked third in the IED with 4.7% of the national share, with investments amounting more than US$60 by the third quarter of 2010.

The results are mostly attributed to the work made by the regional office of PROCOLOMBIA to globalize local companies through its program Consultorios Itinerantes de Comercio Exterior, carried out with the involvement of the Chamber of Commerce.

The purpose is to provide to the different municipalities of the province current information of interest regarding foreign trade, always with the active involvement of different parties, such as Bancoldex, municipal mayors’ offices, Governors’ Offices, Bi-national Chambers, trade associations and entrepreneurs.

Likewise, there are four Centers of Foreign Trade Information and Consultancy (Zeikys) in the area of influence: one in Cali with two offices, and one in Palmira, Cauca and Nariño, respectively, which have become the main points of reference for entrepreneurs and investors who seek advice in their globalization process.

Furthermore, proactive work is being conducted with the Chamber of Commerce of Cali and Universidad Javerianato determine opportunities to the Asian Continent, given the geostrategic position of Valle del Cauca and its port in Buenaventura, the most important one in the country, as it manages nearly 50 percent of the international maritime trade.
